9th Blessed John Paul II Catechetics & Youth Ministry Conference

VIDES Philippines staff and volunteers participated in the 9th Blessed John Paul II Catechetics & Youth Ministry Conference held at the Don Bosco Technical School Makati from May 15 to 17, 2013.

With the theme “New Evangelization with the Young at Home and in Social Media,” the conference aimed to promote the youth as agents of New Evangelization.  This is in line with the Church’s desire to grasp more clearly the meaning of New Evangelization and to look at the young in the important contexts of their life: their family (homes) and the digital world (social media).

Armed with a deeper understanding of the concept of new evangelization, the staff and volunteers are, more than ever before, ready to share God's good news and loving grace to the communities being served by VIDES Philippines.

A Big Thank You!

VIDES Pinoy thanks everyone who supported this year's Eat and Meet Dinner for a Cause.  Your support would go a long way in helping and bringing joy to the 500 participant-beneficiaries of our Mission Camp which will be held in Canlubang, Laguna this May 25.

We thank the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco for the unceasing support to our worthwhile endeavors. Of course, the fundraising dinner would not be a success without the hard work, dedication, and commitment of all VIDES volunteers!

Let's continue to be ONE FOR OTHERS!  God bless you all!

BMDK Participants Compete in the Annual VIDES Summer Sportsfest

"Run, jump, shout, but do not sin," said St. John Bosco.  This teaching by the founder of the Salesian Society is being imparted by VIDES to the youth.

Through the conduct of the Annual Summer Sportsfest, VIDES gives the youth from depressed areas the opportunity to have an afternoon of fun and games where they also learn the values of teamwork, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.

This year's sports competition was held at the Don Bosco School Sta. Mesa last May 12, 2013.  Teams from six BMDK areas, NIA Road (Quezon City), Recto (Manila City), Pasay City, South Triangle (Quezon CIty), San Roque (Quezon City), and Delpan (Manila City), participated in a friendly one-day competition which consisted of basketball, badminton, chess, cheerdance, scrabble, and volleyball.

VIDES Youth Attend Seminar Workshop on Modern Heroism and Leadership

Participants of the Busina Mo, Dunong Ko Mobile Education Project attended the Seminar Workshop on Heroism and Leadership organized by the Philippine Women's University last May 6, 2013.

The youth gained positive insights and inspiration from the stories and experiences shared by the speakers led by 2009 CNN Hero of the Year, Efren PeƱaflorida.

They learned that anyone can be a hero in his or her own right, that being a hero does not entail wearing a red cape or having superpowers. Anyone can be a hero by being a good citizen and by striving to make even a small difference in his/her community.

VIDES aims to empower the youth through skill-building and leadership training to develop and strengthen the needed competencies so they can become agents of change in their communities.
